In the spirit of Mandela Day — a time to give, reflect, and serve — the Rotary Club of Worcester, alongside valued partners, came together on 16 July 2026 to make a meaningful difference in the lives of some of our community’s most vulnerable.
Our outreach, held ahead of Mandela Day on 18 July, focused on the residents of Awendrus Nursing Home’s frail care facility in Worcester. Often, the elderly are among the most overlooked in society — their days quieter, their needs greater, and their longing for connection deeply felt.
On this day, however, they were not forgotten.
The Innovation for the Blind Band filled the space with music, laughter, and shared moments of joy as residents sang along — a reminder that dignity and happiness have no age limit. Warm soup and bread were served, offering not only nourishment, but comfort and care.
Our outreach extended further into the community, with soup and bread also distributed at OVD to those in need.
This initiative was made possible through the collaboration of Innovation for the Blind, Mediclinic Worcester, Herotel Worcester, Women of Worcester (WOW), Rotary Club of Worcester members, and our Interact clubs — a true testament to the power of collective service.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jacques Debbes from Herotel for the generous donation of coffee, tea, and sugar, and to Mediclinic Worcester for their incredible contribution of 190 Bags of Hope. These were distributed among Awendrus, House of Hope, Women of Worcester (WOW), and St. Christopher’s — each bag a symbol of compassion, dignity, and care.
This outreach reminded us that service is not only about meeting physical needs, but about restoring connection, honouring lives, and ensuring that no one — especially our elderly — feels unseen or forgotten.
Together, we serve. Together, we uplift. Together, we make a difference.
