Sometimes making a difference begins with something very simple: a warm beanie, a cupcake, a cup of tea and a hug.
The Rotary Club of Worcester continued its Women’s Day initiative by taking appreciation and a little bit of warmth to four important institutions serving the Breede Valley community:
Boland Hospice
Brewelskloof Hospital
The Maternity Ward at Worcester Hospital
Worcester Mediclinic
But this was about more than Women’s Day.
It was a heartfelt thank you to the people who serve our community every day.
Healthcare and service providers spend their working lives caring for others. They comfort, assist, heal, encourage and support people through some of life’s most difficult and important moments. Too often, the people doing the caring are so busy caring for everyone else that nobody stops to ask who is caring for them.
So Rotary Club of Worcester decided to stop.
Our members visited these four institutions bearing simple gifts of appreciation: warm beanies, cupcakes lovingly made by the staff of APD, tea for tea time and, perhaps most importantly, lots and lots of hugs.
The gifts themselves may have been small, but the sentiment behind them was anything but.
We see you.
We appreciate you.
Thank you for what you do.
This is what community service means to the Rotary Club of Worcester.
We don’t want caring about our community to be lip service. We want it to be something people can feel.
A smile.
A kind word.
A warm beanie.
A sweet treat.
A cup of tea.
A hug when someone needs one.
Small gestures can change the texture of someone’s day.
And while Rotary is committed to tackling significant community challenges and creating sustainable solutions, we also recognise that lasting change is built from countless human moments. It grows when people feel valued, when communities work together and when compassion becomes action.
This is particularly important to us during the 2026/27 Rotary year, as we embrace our commitment to Create Lasting Change.
For the Rotary Club of Worcester, creating lasting change doesn’t mean waiting for the perfect project or the perfect moment.
It means showing up.
It means looking at the people around us and asking, “What can we do to make today a little better?”
And then doing it.
To every nurse, doctor, caregiver, administrator, support worker, volunteer and service provider at these four institutions:
Thank you.
Thank you for the hours you give.
Thank you for the compassion you show.
Thank you for the difficult days you navigate.
Thank you for caring for our community.
The Rotary Club of Worcester sees you, appreciates you and stands beside you.
Because Service Above Self isn’t simply something we say.
It’s something we do.
And together, one act of kindness, one partnership and one person at a time, we can Create Lasting Change.
