Following the devastating storms that struck Worcester and the surrounding areas on 11 and 12 May, the Rotary Club of Worcester has remained steadfast in its commitment to supporting affected communities.
The storms caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, leaving many residents without electricity and water for up to a week. In response, Rotarian Heloise Beukes initiated an emergency Soup Kitchen, with Rotarians and volunteers working tirelessly to provide warm meals to communities in Roodewal, Riverview, OVD, and Avian Park.
For many families, these meals offered vital relief during a time of uncertainty.
As conditions began to stabilise, it became clear that the needs of the community had shifted. Families returned to homes that were damaged or destroyed, requiring essential household items to begin rebuilding their lives. The focus of relief efforts evolved accordingly.
Rotary Worcester, together with Worcester Ladies Circle 38, Worcester Round Table 68, Rainbow, Hano Saaiman from Marunic Trading, local businesses, PP David Reade, and generous community members, mobilised resources to provide food, clothing, bedding, furniture, and basic household necessities.
Support was also extended to animals affected by the disaster, with the provision of cattle feed, dog and cat food, and dog blankets, recognising the vital role animals play in both livelihoods and family life.
While many immediate challenges have been addressed, Rotary Worcester’s efforts are ongoing. The Club continues to support communities as they rebuild, understanding that recovery is a long-term process.
The Rotary Club of Worcester expresses its sincere gratitude to all partners, donors, and volunteers who have contributed to these efforts. Together, we continue to restore dignity, rebuild lives, and strengthen our community.
Even after the storm has passed, Rotary Worcester remains committed — because true recovery takes time.
