When disaster strikes, it does not only affect people — it impacts every living being in its path.
On 11 May 2026, severe cold fronts swept across the Western Cape, bringing widespread flooding and landslides. The devastation led to the region being declared a national disaster, leaving many communities reeling — including Sandy’s Eden Animal Shelter in Worcester.
Sandy’s Eden, a vital refuge for abandoned, neglected, and rescued animals, suffered significant damage to its facilities. Essential hygiene and cleaning supplies, critical for maintaining the health and well being of the animals, were lost in the flooding.
recognizing the urgent need, the Rotary Club of Worcester stepped in.
Through the tremendous efforts of Past President Juanita Wilkinson, a District Flood Relief Grant was secured to support the shelter’s recovery. Under Category 3 (Hygiene), funds were allocated to procure essential hygiene packs, cleaning products, and water filtration supplies.
All items were sourced directly from Agrimark Worcester and delivered to Sandy’s Eden, ensuring immediate and practical support where it was needed most.
This initiative reflects Rotary’s commitment to meaningful, hands-on service — not only rebuilding spaces, but restoring care, dignity, and hope for the most vulnerable.
