Rotary Brings Joy to Awendrus
Sometimes creating lasting change begins with something as simple as sharing a meal.
The Rotary Club of Worcester recently gathered together to host a special chicken braai for the residents of Awendrus Old Age Home, many of whom are experiencing significant hardship.
For our Rotary family, this was never simply about providing lunch. It was about bringing people together, creating connection and reminding our senior citizens that they are seen, valued and cared for.
The braai was hosted at the home of Past President Stephne’ Botha, where Rotary members, partners and families joined forces to prepare a delicious feast. Chicken was expertly braaied while potato salad and pasta salad were provided to accompany the meal.
There was plenty of food, but there was also plenty of laughter, teamwork and fellowship.
And then there were the faces of the residents.
The appreciation and joy they expressed were a powerful reminder that sometimes the smallest gestures can make an enormous difference. A warm meal, shared conversation and the knowledge that someone has taken the time to care can bring comfort and dignity during difficult circumstances.
Rotary is a family of service
One of the most special aspects of the day was seeing two of our Rotarians in Training, getting involved alongside the adults.
At the Rotary Club of Worcester, we believe that service is something we should experience together across generations.
We want our children and young people to see that giving back is not simply something adults do. It is an opportunity for everyone to contribute, regardless of age.
Through initiatives like this, we hope to instill the spirit of Pay It Forward: giving freely, helping others and understanding the incredible joy that comes from making someone else’s life a little brighter.
The day also reflected the wonderful diversity and dynamism of our Rotary Club.
Men and women. Rotarians and partners. Families and friends. Experienced members and young people learning what service really means.
Everyone brought something to the table.
Some braaied. Salads were provided. Some served. Some simply brought a willing pair of hands.
Together, however, they created something far greater than a meal.
They created community. They created connection.
And they created a moment of happiness for people who are facing difficult circumstances.
This is the spirit of Service Above Self.
It is found in the big community projects, but it is equally present in the simple acts of kindness that happen when people choose to care.
The Rotary Club of Worcester is proud to be a family-oriented club where fellowship and service go hand in hand. When we join forces, bring our families along and give the next generation an opportunity to serve, we don’t simply make a difference today.
We help create a culture of kindness that can continue tomorrow.
One braai.
One shared meal.
One smile.
One generation teaching the next.
Together, we are Creating Lasting Change.
