After a warm welcome on Thursday, the District 9350 Conference continued in full swing on Friday with an action-packed Assembly, that left everyone inspired, moved, and energized for the Rotary year ahead.
The session opened with the introduction of District Governor Elect Pam Rawbone. This followed with the Rotary International Theme for 2025/26, setting the tone for a year of purpose and progress.
We were privileged to hear from Hein Wagner, who, despite being born blind, shared a powerful message about “turning obstacles into opportunities.” His story left the room in awe—there were lumps in throats, and more than a few tears shed.
Next, we heard from Dan Meyer, whose project Biking for Smiles captured hearts and showcased the power of Rotary-driven impact in action.
Marlene le Roux took the stage with her deeply personal story about living with polio and her remarkable work with Artscape, reinforcing the importance of inclusion and the human spirit.
Verna Oliphant reminded us of the vital importance of engaging our youth, a theme that continued with Irmela Pakendorf and the Rotary Club of Knysna, who shared their inspiring anti-bullying campaign in the Garden Route. “Let’s celebrate our youth” was not just a message – it was a call to action.
These are just a few of the incredible voices that shaped the day – each one bringing their unique perspective and passion to the stage. Once again, Feedem took care of lunch, and they didn’t disappoint. Delicious, thoughtful food kept everyone energized and ready for the rest of the day.
And then… it was time to party! 🎉
Friday evening saw us heading to Tuskers in the stunning Brandwacht Valley, where the views were as breathtaking as the atmosphere. Die Kaapse Affodille brought the house down with their lively boere musiek – it was an absolute hit!
Guests were treated to a mouth-watering feast (yes, again courtesy of Feedem), but the true star of the meal? The chocolate mousse – it had everyone talking! 🍫
Even after the band packed up, the dancing didn’t stop. With music from across the decades, we laughed, danced, and celebrated well into the night. What a way to end an incredible day of learning, inspiration, and togetherness.
Stay tuned for Part 3 as we wrap up the conference highlights!
